Nugget of Trivia
I learned two things today from cable popular film reruns:
- Matthew Perry was originally picked for the part Harry Connick, Jr. eventually played in Independence Day. Perry's dad played a Secret Service agent.
- David Letterman auditioned for the role of Ted Stryker in Airplane. Imagine how different it would be in that Alternate Film Universe, which brings me back to my desire to see the somewhat completed version of Back To The Future featuring Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly.

Not that Harry Connick Jr was brilliant in Independence Day (loved him in Copycat, though!), but Matthew Perry in that part is just wrong, wrong, wrong.
[Permalink] [ popup]And you and me both on the alternate Back to the Future. I was disappointed there wasn't footage on the DVD of Eric Stoltz in the role of Marty. Not surprised, though. It's very unusual for an actor to sign off and allow you to see them at their "worst." It's part of what makes the "other women auditioning for Lois Lane" footage on the Superman DVD such a rare and neat feature.
And I HATE David Letterman. Airplane would have been absolutely destroyed with him in the part.
Word has it that Stoltz somehow "blocked" any of his footage from being seen in public, that he doesn't want Universal to profit in any small way from his dropped performance.
